A holistic approach to facial rejuvenation

Facial acupuncture: The natural alternative to botox

Did you know that there’s a better, healthier, and safer way to rejuvenate your skin than botox?

Facial acupuncture also known as “Acufacial” is a treatment that is a natural, effective, and non-surgical approach to healthy skin, wrinkle reduction, and facial sculpting.

As acupuncture for the face, it draws from traditional Chinese medicine beliefs that we can unlock skin glow and self-healing from within. Our body contains energy channels where our Qi (energy) and blood circulate, keeping us happy and healthy.

Over time, as we age, our entire body changes. Our skin naturally dries, our metabolism slows down and the natural life cycle of our skin begins to decrease. This causes sagging and wrinkles. Sometimes, our energy channels get blocked causing our body to not receive the Qi and blood it needs to self-heal. This can lead to acne, dryness and other skin conditions. With Acufacial, we can heal these skin concerns, naturally.

At Unplug Hour Wellness, we created our intimate space in Gastown to bring calm and rest to the bustling city of Vancouver. We invite you to come and experience the power of traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture.

Unplug. Pamper. Relax.

It starts with a conversation. We all lead different lives which means every case is unique. That’s why we take our time to truly listen to your needs and your questions before explaining the process in detail.

What happens during a facial acupuncture treatment

As your acupuncturist, we go over all your skin and health concerns so we can find the best treatment for you. After that, we invite you to get comfortable and relax, while we take care of the rest.

We insert sterile, disposable needles to stimulate different acupuncture points and help your blood and energy to flow freely. These needles are as fine as strands of hair and painless. You might just feel a slight sting or pinch on some points. We leave the needles in for 20 to 30 minutes, enough time for you to enjoy a little nap, if you want!

Once we remove the needles, it’s time for your spa-like cleanse and tone. We pamper you with a rejuvenating facial massage, jade-rolling and Gua Sha . This minimizes the appearance of fine lines, redefines your face and leaves your skin feeling smooth, firm and radiant.

When you walk out of our wellness clinic, expect to be feeling happier, healthier and more confident.

Be prepared for plenty of compliments on your natural glow!

Frequently Asked Questions about Acupuncture

  • Facial acupuncture treatment sessions can last between 20 to 45 minutes. During this time your skin will relax and activate collagen production to naturally fill in your face and give you that natural smooth complexion.

  • Acupuncture needles disrupt skin tissue in the body to increase collagen and elastin production and stimulate blood flow. As a result, your face experience a natural facelift with less wrinkles and deep lines and reduced sagging.

  • Acupuncture needles do not penetrate your skin deep enough to cause bruising. The entire process is done gently, and your acupuncturist will guide you through and address any concerns or questions you might have.

  • Sure! You’re free to wear your skincare products and make-up as usual after your facial acupuncture treatment. Other than that, remember to stay hydrated, avoid alcohol and caffeine, as well as rest.

  • It depends! The frequency of treatment varies depending on different factors including your health history, the severity of your condition, the season and/or climate, your age, your gender, your current lifestyle as well as how your body responds to the first few sessions. Acupuncture is a process and results are cumulative. Consistency is key to giving your skin the time it needs to heal itself naturally.

  • Yes! Acupuncture is covered by most extended health plans in BC. Please contact your employer or extended health provider (including students) to find out about your coverage information as it differs from policy to policy. Please note we do not bill directly for extended health benefits, however after your appointment you will receive an email receipt that has all the information you need to submit directly to your insurance provider.
