Experience Authentic Cupping Therapy in Downtown Vancouver

When Modern Science meets Ancient Wisdoms

Cupping: An Ancient Medicine Approach To Healing

Cupping has been used for centuries as an ancient form of alternative medicine in China, Egypt, and the Middle East. During a cupping therapy session, your therapist puts special cups on your skin and leaves them there for a few minutes. These cups create suction, drawing our toxins from the body and promoting healthy blood flow.

At Unplug Hour Wellness, everything we do is rooted in a deep understanding of what our patients seek. We use cupping therapy to gently balance and realign Qi (energy) so it circulates smoothly throughout the body. As a result, your body is empowered to heal itself and reduce pain naturally, without the side effects commonly caused by western medication.

At Unplug Hour Wellness, we offer cupping therapy as part of our acupuncture and acupressure services. We have created a quiet space in the middle of bustling Downtown Vancouver to help you unplug from the daily hustle and experience deep rest and healing. Ready for slow?

How Cupping Transforms Your Body

Injuries, stress, and everyday life can create imbalances in the body. Cupping removes stagnation and encourages the flow that helps correct those imbalances.

Patients will feel instant relief after a cupping session. You’ll also feel more energized, alert, and attuned.  Some of the benefits of cupping include but are not limited to:

  • Detoxing tissues

  • Activating the lymphatic system

  • Clearing veins, arteries, and capillaries

  • Clearing skin

  • Relaxing muscle tension

  • Unblocking blood flow

  • Balancing the nervous system

  • Promoting cellular repair

  • Easing stiffness

Unplug and reset

Slow down so you can focus on the present moment. Become aware of your body, your thoughts, and your surroundings. When we tune in, we discover how powerful our bodies truly are.

What happens during a cupping session

It starts with a conversation. We guide you through how a cupping session works so you know exactly what to expect. We listen to all your questions and concerns. And when you’re ready, we begin.

We place smooth cups, made of silicone or glass, on your skin along the body’s acupuncture points. Then, we create a gentle suction that draws your skin upward into the cup.

At first, you’ll feel some tightness where the cups are. But, pretty soon, your body acclimates to the feeling of the cups and you probably won’t even feel that the cups are there. We leave these cups on for 5-20 minutes depending on what’s best for you.

Once we remove the cups, the pressure release will feel relaxing and soothing.  A mild bruising may occur from the cups which should disappear in a week or two.

Frequently Asked Questions about Acupuncture

  • Description text goes heThe suction from the cups may feel tight but not uncomfortable. This sensation should go away after a few minutes. If you start to feel pain let your therapist know immediately. We are close by during the process to make sure that you are always comfortable.

  • While the cups are on your skin, they loosen and lift your connective tissues, helping the tissues receive more nutrients and oxygen, relieve muscle tension, ease stiffness, and promote cellular repair. As your body detoxes and gets back into balance, you feel lighter, more calm, and happier.

  • Contrary to popular belief, these red marks are not bruises and don’t hurt! The redness comes from the blood being pulled into that area. The darker the marks, the more stagnation and toxins are in the body. With regular cupping sessions, the cupping marks will get lighter. They last anywhere from a few hours to several days and should disappear entirely within two weeks.

  • After your sessions, your therapist will recommend you to:

Staying hydrated to flush out all the toxins.

Avoiding alcohol, caffeine, or junk food. Now is the time for your body to detox, heal and reset.

Resting and avoiding strenuous activities. Rest and sleep are an important part of healing. Here’s your excuse to wear your favourite loungewear and get comfy with your favourite book and some warm chamomile tea!

  • If you’ve hit a plateau, cupping can boost your metabolism and accelerate your weight loss. This makes it an excellent addition to your weight loss plan, coupled with regular exercise and a healthy, nutritious diet. Don’t forget to hydrate!

  • Yes! All of our practitioners are registered acupuncturists with CTCMA. We incorporate cupping therapy into our acupuncture treatments and while acupuncture is included in most extended health plans in BC it is typically covered by your extended health plan. Please contact your employer or extended health provider (including students) to find out about your coverage. We can bill directly for ICBC claims.
