Acupuncture: Empowering the body to heal itself

Acupuncture is an ancient eastern medicine practice of removing blockages in the body’s energy system by inserting tiny needles into specific pressure points. According to traditional Chinese medicine, the human body consists of distinct channels through which Qi (energy) and Xue (blood) flows.

At Unplug Hour Wellness, acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine is at the heart of everything we do. With the help of acupuncture, we help you gently release any blockages you may be experiencing, allowing energy and blood to circulate smoothly and in harmony throughout the body. As a result, your body is empowered to heal itself naturally, without the side effects.

Nestled in the busy streets of beautiful downtown Vancouver, BC, you’ll find our committed team of practitioners ready to guide you through your next acupuncture treatment. We invite you to slow down, unplug and let your body start the process of healing itself.

Unplug and let us take care of the rest

It starts with a conversation. We take time to listen to your unique health conditions and clear any doubts you may have. We then offer you our expert advice on what acupuncture treatment we believe will work best for your current state and future goals.

What happens during an acupuncture session

We start off the acupuncture session by inserting sterile, disposable needles to stimulate different acupuncture points in your body. Don’t worry, these are hair-thin and don’t hurt. You might just feel a slight sting or pinch on some points. These needles will remove blockages in your body and the energy and blood begins to flow freely.

What comes next is a feeling as sweet as honey. Your body will start to release “feel-good hormones” like endorphins, norepinephrine, and oxytocin that will stimulate your body’s natural healing abilities and leave you feeling happier, calmer, deep relief and even euphoria.

Can’t help yourself from smiling, tearing up or laughing till your belly hurts?

Go for it, this is your time!

Frequently Asked Questions about Acupuncture

  • Research shows that acupuncture has the power to affect our nervous system in a profound way. Our bodies have the ability to heal themselves when put in the right environment. Through acupuncture treatments, our body is given the gentle nudge it needs to find its balance again and regain its self-healing mechanism, defending us against illnesses, injuries, and pain (physical and mental).

  • Contrary to popular belief, acupuncture needles do not hurt! Even those with severe fear of needles end up telling us that the needles were not so bad after their treatment. While you might feel a slight sting upon insertion, these needles are much smaller than needles you would use in other procedures. Your treatment should feel relaxing and pain free. If you experience intense pain during an acupuncture treatment, make sure to let your acupuncturist know.

  • It depends! The frequency of treatment varies depending on different factors including your health history, the severity of your condition, the season and/or climate, your age, your gender, your current lifestyle as well as how your body responds to the first few sessions. Every body is different, so is the acupuncture treatment you will be provided. Acupuncture is a process and results a cumulative. Consistency is key to giving your body the time it needs to heal itself in a sustainable, non-invasive way.

  • After two or three sessions, you will start to notice improvements in your physical and emotional state. You may feel keener and more alert. You will also start to be more aware of your surroundings as well as your own body sensations. Overall, you will observe a sense of wellness, calmness, and improved fitness.
