Microneedling for Hair Growth

Microneedling has become a popular treatment for a variety of skin concerns, including wrinkles, scars, and stretch marks. On the other hand, did you know that microneedling can also help with hair growth?

Yep, that's right. Those little tiny needles can help stimulate the hair follicles and promote hair growth. If you're struggling with hair loss or thinning hair, microneedling may be the natural treatment option that you have been looking for!

In this blog post, we'll explore what microneedling is, how it can help with hair growth and give you some tips on aftercare following treatment.

Let's dive in!

Microneedling in a nutshell

Microneedling for hair growth may be a relatively new treatment to hit mainstream media today, although this treatment has been used for thousands of years to promote hair growth. With improvements in modern research, microneedling has become a great new treatment choice for hair loss. Microneedling involves using fine needles to create tiny punctures in the skin. This process stimulates collagen production, reduces inflammation and can promote hair growth. We then apply a topical herbal tonic to further enhance your therapeutic results.

Microneedling Tool

We use a microneedling pen that uses disposable fine needles. Our microneedling pen is effective, quick, precise and relatively painless. The procedure is relatively inexpensive in comparison to hair transplant procedures, so you don’t have to break the bank to get relief from your hair loss struggle.

How does Microneedling Promote Hair Growth?

Microneedling works by creating tiny channels in the scalp, allowing for better nutrient absorption and increased blood flow to the hair follicles. The procedure may sound intimidating at first, but it is suitable for all hair types and is a relatively painless experience that can leave you feeling rejuvenated. We ensure that you are feeling comfortable and relaxed. Early hair loss occurs due to imbalances in the body therefore it is important as expert practitioners for us to treat the root cause of why this is happening in the first place. We create a treatment plan that is suitable for you. Therefore, all our microneedling treatments are combined with a whole body approach to treatment. During your session you will have body acupuncture points as well in conjunction to microneedling to further enhance your treatment results and support you. It is important to recognize the whole body approach to treatment when working with hair loss for longer lasting results. Most patients do not need a numbing cream for microneedling as it is not a painful experience for them. This natural procedure is quick, effective, and can actually feel pretty good!

Microneedling and acupuncture have been shown clinically and in research to be an effective treatment option for hair loss. In modern research acupuncture and microneedling have higher effective rates and lower relapse rates than some common hair growth products such as "Rogaine" and multivitamins.

In one study alopecia areata (bald patches) patients who received acupuncture, microneedling therapy achieved a 90% total effective rate whereas patients who received drug therapy (Rogaine plus multivitamins) achieved a 60% total effective rate. Acupuncture and microneedling as mentioned in this article are using a whole body approach to treatment therefore, enhancing the therapeutic results long term. In this study, 3 months after completion of treatments, the acupuncture group reported only 3 cases of relapse (10% relapse rate) and the drug therapy group reported 11 cases (36.67% relapse rate). If patient's continue with their treatment plan customized by our practitioners they will be better supported and have longer lasting results.

Hair growth oils and topical creams

If you have been experimenting with different oils or topical creams to promote hair growth, whether over the counter or prescribed, microneedling can increase the overall effectiveness of the products. This non-invasive technique involves the use of tiny needles to puncture the skin and create microchannels. By doing so, microneedling enhances the absorption of topical hair growth products by up to 80% and allows the products to penetrate deeper than they would on their own.

Not only does microneedling increase the effectiveness of hair growth products, but it also boosts collagen and elastin production. The result is healthier, thicker, and stronger hair that leaves you feeling confident. During your microneedling treatment we will apply a topical herbal tonic made in house to further enhance your therapeutic results.

You want results you say

Everybody is different, so there is no definitive answer for how long the process takes for microneedling to visibly improve hair growth. Every individual experiences different results, which means progress may vary from person to person. Your treatment plan with our practitioners is customized for you. Generally, we recommend 1-2 hair microneedling treatments per month in conjunction with weekly acupuncture treatments in the weeks where microneedling is not performed. Acupuncture looks at all of the moving pieces within the body and heals from the inside out by strengthening blood flow, qi, and all of your inner organs. With hair loss, you are strengthening the adrenals and kidneys with acupuncture sessions to promote qi to the area that you are trying to strengthen and tonify to create hair regrowth (read our blog on qi and blood). As a whole, microneedling combined with acupuncture can be a great way to steadily increase hair growth over time. While this combination won’t work overnight, as you are turning around the aging process that has taken years to happen, many people are satisfied with the results after 3-4 treatments.

Aftercare Procedure

Microneedling for hair growth is an excellent way to stimulate your hair follicles to produce new hair growth. However, it is crucial to take extra care of your scalp in the days following the treatment to ensure the best results. After the session is complete, a soothing herbal tonic will be applied to reduce any inflammation and boost further hair growth. You should avoid washing your hair with rough shampoos for the next 24-48 hours to avoid scalp irritation. Additionally, try to avoid direct sun, intense exercise, swimming, and any activities that could cause sweating. Overall, microneedling aftercare is straightforward, and if you follow the instructions provided by your professional, you should see new hair growth after a few sessions. Remember to be gentle with your scalp, and give it the necessary time to heal and restore itself.
